Towns
One of the most exciting parts of WinterCrest is watching players come together to form their own towns. These player-made communities add life, creativity, and collaboration to our server - they can range from premade plots, ready for new residents, or sprawling build as you go settlements shaped entirely by player imagination.
Our towns tend to develop in one of these two ways:
Premade Towns:
Some town owners love to build organized towns ahead of time. They layout streets, claims, and houses that players can simply move into. This approach keeps towns tidy and consistent, and it's perfect for players who want to jump straight into community life.
Player-Built Towns:
Other town owners prefer the organic approach: claim a large area, invite people in, and let everyone build as they go. These towns feel more dynamic and creative, as each player styles their home in their own way. While less structured, it can lead to incredibly unique towns.
Power of Subclaims
One of the most important tools for smooth town management is subclaiming.
Subclaims let you divide a large claimed area into smaller sections, each with its own permissions. For example:
- Give certain players the right to build in their designated space
- Protect community builds from griefing
- Allow public access to shared areas like farms or markets
- Keep control of roads, storage, or town halls
Without subclaims, things can get messy fast - players may accidentally build over someone else's area or break blocks they shouldn't. Establishing subclaims early keeps your town organized, protected, and conflict-free.
Set the rules before you grow:
Whether you're making a free-roam town or a plot-based settlement, always set clear rules. Define:
- Building boundaries
- Decoration/edit permissions
- Behaviour expectations
- Resource-sharing guidelines
Clear expectations keep everyone on the same page and prevent problems before they start.
